The 38-year-old driver of a Nissan Altima was allegedly driving under the influence and at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle crashing into a Kia Spectra. The driver of the Spectra was killed as a result of the collision. The driver of the Nissan and his passenger were taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Charges are being filed against the driver of the Nissan Altima.
March 16 – Pedestrian Fatality at East 7th Street and Ultimo Avenue
The Long Beach Police Department announced via a press release that on March 16, 2020, at approximately 9:54 pm, they responded to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. It is believed that an unknown vehicle struck a pedestrian and fled the scene. A Jeep Grand Cherokee then struck the pedestrian whose “body came to rest lying motionless in the eastbound lanes of 7th Street.” The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee attempted to rend aid to the pedestrian who died as a result of his injuries.
March 6 – Pedestrian Fatality at Magnolia Avenue and 32nd Street
On March 6, 2020, the Long Beach Police Department responded to an “injury traffic collision between a vehicle and pedestrian” at around 6:15 pm. According to their preliminary investigation, the pedestrian had been crossing the street in a crosswalk when a 2003 Honda Pilot struck her. The 86-year-old pedestrian succumbed to her injuries as a result of the crash.
March 3 – Injury Collision at Lakewood Boulevard and Stearns Street
According to a report by the Long Beach Post, three people were hospitalized after a traffic collision occurred near Lakewood Boulevard and Stearns Street on March 3. The Jaws of Life had to be used to free the drivers of the vehicles involved.
