Interview with Overett Group’s Lead Attorney

How Much is Your Case Worth? Why Hire Our Team?

#1: What made you choose a career in personal injury law?

I stumbled into PI when a business client was telling about a motorcycle accident that was another vehicles fault and their insurance was giving him the run around and it had been ‘almost two years’. Classic tactical maneuver by big insurance to beat the statute of limitations by handholding the injured party until the case dies. I took the case, figured out what to do, and was hooked. I’m also very motivated by project based, ie case based work mentality. I don’t like tracking time and certainly don’t like the rigors of hour billing.

#2: In your opinion, what sets your firm apart from other firms in the area?

Hands down, its our personal approach. Every client of mine has my cellphone number and has permission to call or text me with any issue at any time. Clients tend to be very respectful of my private time but this option also gives them piece of mind that an answer is only a few minutes away if necessary.

#3: Tell us about a case that you are particularly proud of:

I had a stubborn adjuster in a motorcycle case where we were requesting policy limits which were denied. A few months later, we had limits and an additional 50K from the liable party, and all this happened less than five months after the accident.

#4: What steps do you take to prepare for a difficult case?

I always let the other side know that we are fair and reasonable and decent people, but we will fight with particular ferocity to win for our client’s. Its also important from a focus perspective to let my other clients know that my availability may be strained if there are consecutive days in court.

#5: How do you view your role in the attorney-client relationship?

I see myself as a teacher. I show my clients how the process works, educate them on insurance and how to best protect themselves in the future from both sides of the liability equation.

#6: How does your experience in the personal injury field benefit your clients?

People going at a claim without an attorney are at a severe disadvantage. There are so many nuances, so many tactics, so many approaches one can take to reveal more damages and sources for compensation. It takes some time and case history to really figure these things out.

#7: What types of personal injury claims do you specifically handle?

Most of my practice revolves around traffic accidents, since they are the most frequently occurring. Premises liability claims come in often as well. The remaining case load would be ‘one-off’ type cases, such as food poisoning, battery, etc.

#8: In your opinion, what is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I like helping people and it feels really great to win in David v. Goliath scenarios, but maybe that’s cliché. I love going for the kill. It’s like hunting every day against smart animals. Its real life chess.

#9: What advice do you most often give your clients & why?

Focus on getting better, don’t say anything to anyone, and let me handle everything. This is the fastest way from beginning to end and the client’s really appreciate being free of the claims process.
